Reaching Out to Neighbors

Picture
Throughout October, November, and December, our 8th grade students worked in teams to provide twice-weekly dinners to a local family whose young daughter is battling brain cancer.  They created menus (complete with appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert), divided cooking responsibilities, and delivered meals on specified days.  They included cards for the family, a Mass intention, and gifts for the children, helping to relieve some of the family's stress with their thoughtful expressions of hope and concern.  In addition, kindergarteners sent pictures, crafts, and notes, reminding this family that many others have been praying for strength and healing they seek in these difficult circumstances.

Acting on Behalf of Others

7th grade students sold Canticle Coffee after Sunday masses at OLGC on October 30, 2011.  At that time, students raised $432.00 dollars, which will benefit the homeless and impoverished individuals from St. Aloysius Church in Detroit.  However, their efforts continue:  he 7th graders will sell the fair-trade coffee once a month through May 2012 after every mass at OLGC church.  In addition, on November 22 and December 13th, each homeroom made and served a holiday meal for the seniors of St. Al's.
